Welcome to A Tiny Bit Marvellous.
A Tiny Bit Marvellous based in South Hobart – established in 2011.
In 2011 the shop was selling only cake decorating supplies, offering advice on decorating, and hiring-out cake tins. A customer came into our store and asked ‘will you be selling balloons?’… After a little thinking, we decided that selling balloons were a fantastic idea for our tiny business, cakes often go hand-in-hand with balloons at events. We set out to learn as much as we could about balloons, and successfully became a member of the QBN, a worldwide network of trained balloon professionals.
In 2013, we built a commercial kitchen which we could use to bake and decorate our cakes, hold children’s parties, and run our cake decorating classes. Jump to 2016, and we have established ourselves as one of Hobart’s go-to places for customised cakes and balloons, as-well-as offering advice and guidance to other decorators.
We have a fantastic customer base from the once-a-year mum or dad who comes to us for tips on cakes and balloons to the corporate customers for larger orders. Nothing is too big or too small.
Who are we?
Sarah – Owner – Cake Maker – Decorator – Balloon Bloweruperer. Sarah has an Advanced Diploma in Hospitality Management from Drysdale Insitute of TAFE, a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Tasmania, and Bachelor of Commerce also from the University of Tasmania. Sarah’s love for the Art of cake decorating came from being home with her newborn and catching a glimpse of a fantastically decorated cake. Having never seen anything like it before, she had to dive head-first into learning everything she could about it. Her friends and family became test subjects, using any excuse to make a cake… ‘your uncle’s friend’s cousin’s wife’s daughter’s friend’s mum needs a cake? Right, I got this.’
After making cakes for friends and family for a few years, it finally dawned on Sarah that this cake decorating thing could be bigger and better. Almost overnight the decision was made to open a shop, start selling the bits and pieces that most people need to make their cakes, and see how it goes. (it goes good, by the way). A Tiny Bit Marvellous was born out of a passion for the Art of Cake Decorating, and a love for learning new things. It has been a journey, but the journey has been worth it.
Sam – Cake Maker – Decorator – Balloon Bloweruper. Sam grew up in Hobart and worked through school at a local supermarket. After school, Samantha started working in the finance industry, working as a Finance Manager for both large and small companies both in Tasmania and interstate. Samantha has always had a passion for cooking and baking, often returning home after a long day of balancing the books, to pull out an old baking book given to her by her mother, trying out and experimenting with her ingredients, creating new and wonderful treats for her friends and family. An opportunity arose for Sam to start a new career, one that she was passionate about, in 2010, she endeavoured on a new adventure in the kitchen, working as an apprentice chef which Sam enjoyed very much, however, she would still go home and bake. After the birth of her second child, Samantha started diving more deeply into the Art of Cake Decorating. Sam decided that baking and cakes were her passion, and began working as much as she could in the Baking industry, made cakes for friends and family, and started frequenting A Tiny Bit Marvellous for supplies. At the time, A Tiny Bit Marvellous was growing, and Sarah had put the word out for some help behind the scenes with the books. It was fate, do the book keeping, and be able to hang-around cake supplies all day? The job evolved, and while Samantha still helps Sarah with the books, she is very hands-on with the decorating, cake making and balloon blowerupering.
